Obituary for Bro. Ronald Lee Chastain

Reverend Ronald Lee Chastain (80) of Burlington, KY, passed on from this Earth on the morning of November 17th, 2021. Bro. Ron was born in Lawrence, Indiana on March 4, 1941, son of the late Emmett and Mabel Chastain. He was a beloved former pastor of Second 12 Mile Baptist Church in Peach Grove, KY, Hebron Baptist Church in Hebron, KY, and numerous other wonderful churches in Northern Kentucky. He was a long-time Director of Missions for the Crittenden Baptist Association, and he cared deeply for his member churches. Bro. Ron is survived by his wife Patricia, sons Matthew, Mark (Anastasia), and Kelly (Aksana), daughter Elizabeth (Jamie) Malaugh, siblings Dennis G. Chastain, Linda L. Seffrin and Carolyn J. Bortnyk, aunt Martha J. Ingram, grandchildren Megan, Morgan, Declan, Aislinn, Brendan, Kian, Kenny, Luka, and Victor, and great-grandchildren Cooper and Keegan.
Bro. Ron was known to work hard behind the pulpit, in a plowed field, on a loading dock, teaching in a classroom, in a garage, on a softball pitching mound, and even while picking a guitar in a Friday-night bluegrass jam session. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY, and his Master’s from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. He was dedicated to his ministry and served as a missionary in Africa as well as Russia. Over the years, Ron dutifully served Boone County as an auxiliary Police Officer, an Animal Control Officer, and a Vehicle Inspector. He could defuse a tense situation as an officer on Saturday night and then preach the gospel on Sunday morning. He had a generous laugh, a supportive nature, and a real genuine love for his fellow man. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held from 2-4pm Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the Peoples Funeral Home in Butler, KY. Graveside services will follow at 1pm Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the Peach Grove Cemetery with Bro. Monte McElfresh officiating. Memorials, if desired, are suggested to the Peach Grove Cemetery, c/o Jimmy Roseberry, 262 Garvey Road, Butler, KY 41006
