Obituary for Larry Dale Patton

Larry Dale Patton was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1948, to Delphia (Shepherd) and William H. “Buster” Patton. He was a big baby at 10 pounds and his mother reminded him of that fact for many years. Larry passed away on October 25, 2021 at home with his family near his side, after a long, valiant battle with cancer.

Larry is survived by his wife Susan Buckley Patton of Falmouth, KY; two daughters, Emma Kate Murray of Alexandria, KY, and Anna Kristin Lingeman (Dan) of Falmouth, KY; granddaughter Kyla Susanna Patton, two grandsons, Zayden Dale Murray and Felix Lingeman, as well as many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Larry had two sisters; Brenda “Pat” Reynolds and Connie Cooley and two brothers; William Patton and Harvey Patton. He is survived by his sister Connie Cooley of Prestonsburg, KY.
He had the opportunity to attend several grade schools in Pike and Floyd Counties while growing up. He attended Prestonsburg High School and graduated from Mullins High School in 1967. He attended Morehead State University and later finished his education with a degree in electronics.
He started his work career at the University of Kentucky Medical Center as a pharmacy technician and became a respiratory therapist before being trained as a hemodialysis technician. He began his career at The Christ Hospital as a hemodialysis technician, later changing to Clinical Engineering. He retired in 2015 after 36 years at The Christ Hospital.

Larry was a member of the Sierra Club and spent many hours volunteering at events, leading hikes and lobbying for Planet Earth’s environmental protection. He enjoyed introducing others to hiking and backpacking and would throw in a music festival when the opportunity arose.
Larry was a tree hugging, flower sniffing, animal kissing, planet loving, dirt worshipper and was proud of it. He was a hiker, backpacker, biker, runner, outdoorsman, weed whacker, and a world traveler. He was a friend. He was a wonder.

Larry was a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, friend, and a good person. He loved philosophy, yoga and was a Christian. He loved to read and enjoyed journaling on his many backpacking adventures across the United States and during his once in a lifetime trek in Nepal.
Larry will be missed greatly by his family and friends. May his memory be a blessing for those that hold him in their hearts, always.
