Obituary for Samuel Smith

Samuel Smith, 95, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022. Sam was born on January 5, 1927, on a houseboat built by his father, Archie B Smith, Sr, that was moored on the St John's River at the Sanford Boat Works in Seminole County, FL.

Sam was preceeded in death by his father, Archie B Smith, Sr; his mother Della Langdale Smith; brother Tommy C Smith and sister Mary Smith Hall. Sam is survived by Patricia Oetzel Smith, his wife of 53 years; sons Danny Lee Smith (Jill), Donald Van Roy Smith (Sharon) and Douglas Edward Smith (Diane); siblings Sylvia Smith Breda (Jay), Arlene Smith Redmer (Tim) and Archie B Smith, Jr ( Debi); many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Sam loved God, family and country. He attended Ft Caroline Christian Church when his health permitted. He served in the US Navy in the South Pacific in World War II. His father taught him boating and boat building skills while growing up at the Sanford Boat Works. He used those skills later in life to build a barge for his "3 sons" to ride up and down the St John's River, catching and then selling fish so they could buy more gas and ride up and down the St John's River again! Sam was always ready to hit the waterways with family; laser eyes on the water, steady hands on the wheel and running full-speed ahead. Sam was dearly loved and he will be dearly missed. A service will be held at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home on Saturday November 26th at 1:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at 1pm Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Alexandria Cemetery under the direction of Peoples Funeral Home.
